Today we really start the push into peak, and yes the numbers are starting to rise. We did our first Sunday deliveries today, much to the surprise of the customers I delivered to today. There is just a few points I want to touch on today to help us prepare or the coming weeks, the future and the change to payroll.
I will start with payroll. This week we made the move to Microkeeper completely. With this you can no longer edit your logs but instead you need to let me or your supervisor know that you have made a mistake. The system has already saved me so much time and money. Time from dealing with the new full time staff model and money on subscription costs over what we were using before. One thing I have only just found out with the new system is that pay slips are no longer emailed to you, instead they are stored on the dashboard of the app or website and you can view them there when ever you want.
Rosters are now a thing with the new app, we are still getting used to it a bit, but the four of us in the management team can now adjust this, so we are going to try and make it pretty accurate to help avoid the confusion of the past when start times would change. Once a roster is locked it can be pushed out to you and you will get a notification on the app that the roster is there. If we make a change to it during the week, we can then push it to those who it has changed for. So please keep an eye out for this new feature.
On a different note, as things have gotten busier for me, especially as we role into peak, I can't commit to being in the shed all the time and see everyone each day, especially in Maroochydore with the different waves of start times in that shed. To help with this I will be falling back on a lot of email correspondence for matters that need to be dealt with. People will start getting emails with paperwork on them asking them to explain a situation. This doesn't mean you are in trouble, I just need to get an understanding of a situation so I can make a call on what to do. From your response I will let you know in a follow up letter to explain what needs to be done. The new Microkeeper has a HR function with it too where we can then file these letters digitally with the staff member and we can better keep records of things going forward.
I don't need to explain the next part, but I will anyway. Today we have sold our fourth vehicle in the fleet, there is a fifth ear marked to be sold, but we have had to delay this slightly due to a minor issue. With this we will have saved a further $6,000 a month in van repayments. The key to that, and to how we got pays paid two weeks ago was selling my ute. It was fully paid off at the time, so we were able to liquidate the ute into cash and used that cash to make some important payments for the company. With all the savings we had made and the price of some of the lesser model utes on the market at the moment I was able to grab a Great wall Cannon Vanta ute to bring into the fleet for a very minimal monthly repayment compared to the savings we have made so far.
Final thing, we are really about to hit some busy weeks over the coming months and we will have some people needing time off in the middle of these periods. All I ask is that people do their best, don't rush and get to the end of the day safely please. We will get it all done and I think we are in one of the best positions we have been in for a while going into peak, so please, be safe and look after yourself, I know I don't do a good example of this, but I am trying to change that.
Thanks again all.
