Dog Attacks

We have now had five dog attacks in five weeks. We have been fortunate that none have resulted in significant injuries. I want to remind everyone that they must be on the lookout for signs of unsecured dogs on the premises when we deliver. If there is any sign of a dog at the property, please do not enter the property until you know it is secured. You are free to yell out for the customer from the gate, and if there is a chance that there is a dog on the property and it is unsecured, please card the parcel if no one will come out to you when you call out.
We still need to make an effort and wait a minute to see if someone will come out. Feel free to give a short beep on the horn to get someone's attention that could be on the property.
If you get attacked by a dog, if it is severe, get to a doctor or the hospital ASAP. If this is in an ambulance, then please do that. Contact me or one of the team to let us know what has happened. When you can, please fill out an incident report on the website so we can pass the details on to Australia Post so they can take the matter up with the local Council. If you need to take time to calm yourself after the dog attack, please do. These are scary events and don't expect to be able to keep going, even if it is just a near miss.
We can also add these dog attacks to the scanner if we are within one kilometre of the property so that other Australia Post people going to this address can be made aware of their potential danger. This does not have to be done on the same day but within that one-kilometre radius of the property. There is a drop-down menu in the scanner now where you can report a hazard; this is where you can do this process.
Finally, I am trying to get our contract to be part of a trial of new uniforms based on the light blue colour scheme. The move away from fluorescent shirts is hoped to lower the instances of dog attacks, so hopefully, we can be part of this trial and take every chance to lower the chance of dog attacks in the future.
