Baringa Shed Changes incoming

Firstly, thank you all who helped Baringa get through the last month or so of hard times, your help is greatly appreciated.

With the new contracts to start on the 1st of July for the Maroochydore run, there are some big changes that will come into effect for the Baringa shed to accommodate the obligations of this new contract. I don't want to make all these changes on the first day and hope they work so I would like to push some of these changes through to the Baringa operation at the start of June so we get everything right for the start of the new contract.

What will this mean for you?

There will be run changes across the board and some runs will shrink in size, unfortunately. This will be for two reasons; the first is to give us more coverage for times when we are short-staffed going forward, and the second is to help us make room for a bulk driver and a late parcel transfer driver. These changes were to be in line with parcel number increases over the past few months but the decline in numbers has led to runs needing to shrink in size.

All efforts will be made to keep hours where they are, but unfortunately, this will not be the case for all. What will also be changing is the morning sort team, with the new schedule we will need to cover parcels arriving at the depot up until midday at times which will require some staff starting later to help cover the parcels from the 9 am truck and later and the morning staff clearing out of the shed before these people arrive. This will lead to less downtime and more space on the floor of the shed, which is always a good thing.

Why does this need to happen?

While we do need to bring in some new staff to cover all these changes too as it is impossible for us to cover all these parcels arriving across the day and cover staff that are away with the current team we have. With my health concerns as well, I can't be relied on to be the second relief driver and I can't run the business as a whole while being that second relief driver as it currently is.

I am hoping that by making these sweeping changes now and setting us up for the new contract we will be in a far better place going forward and runs will come back to the same levels they were at naturally as the economy bounces back leading to an increase of parcel numbers yet again.

I will be in the depot on Monday and happy to talk to you all further if you have any questions about the coming changes.
